Popular YouTuber Undermines Theory that Artificial Intelligence Can Create Videos

Don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Popular YouTube Alec Wilcock posted a video in early 2023 that claimed how artificial intelligence can make YouTube videos in minutes. However, he quickly contradicts his own theory by showing 20 manual steps needed to actually create the video. Wilcock has more than 56,000 subscribers on his YouTube page where he gives tips for YouTubers who want to scale up their channels.

Alec Wilcock had the audacity to claim “goodbye video editors” in a video that demonstrates perfectly the need for video editors.

It’s surprising that a YouTuber who dedicates his craft to producing videos would have such a blind spot for the importance of the video editor. In fact, his video (that got more than 871,000 views) consists almost entirely of him performing manual video editing tasks for the majority of the demo. He takes a break in the middle of the video to eat chicken. When he’s not downplaying the importance of the video editor, this chicken eating YouTuber details these 20 steps of the video editing process:

  1. Brainstorm topic
  2. Copy-edit script
  3. Brainstorm individual chapters
  4. Submit the script to a VoiceOver artist
  5. Select a VoiceOver artist
  6. Record the VoiceOver script
  7. Provide video footage
  8. Select video footage
  9. Match video footage with lines of the script (2:59)
  10. Add transitions to the video edits
  11. Render the video
  12. Generate closed captioning
  13. Add titles and graphics to the video
  14. Adjust the layout of title graphics
  15. Provide royalty free music
  16. Select music for project  (5:25)
  17. Adjust volume so that music doesn’t compete with main VoiceOver
  18. Adjust the colors of title graphics
  19. Animate titles, graphics and other video elements
  20. Export the video into the proper technical specifications

The theory of the video reaches its most tone-deaf moment when it displays AI’s response that it does not, quote “have the ability to create YouTube videos. I am not a physical entity and do not have the ability to create videos or interact with the world in that way.”Of course Alec isn’t alone in his tone deaf proclamation that human video editors are obsolete. A YouTuber named Edy Chandra gained more than 394,000 video views in his first 3 months after claiming A.I. can generate videos. Again, around 7 minutes into his tutorial, Chandra starts manually selecting b-roll clips to enhance his sample video. If you are looking for human beings to document your business with videos in the physical world, call All Business Videography LLC at (814) 954-7548.
