Popular YouTuber Undermines Theory that Artificial Intelligence Can Create Videos
Don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Popular YouTube Alec Wilcock posted a video in early 2023 that claimed how artificial intelligence can make YouTube videos in minutes. However, he quickly contradicts his own theory by showing 20 manual steps needed to actually create the video. Wilcock has more than 56,000 subscribers on his YouTube page where he gives tips for YouTubers who want to scale up their channels.
It’s surprising that a YouTuber who dedicates his craft to producing videos would have such a blind spot for the importance of the video editor. In fact, his video (that got more than 871,000 views) consists almost entirely of him performing manual video editing tasks for the majority of the demo. He takes a break in the middle of the video to eat chicken. When he’s not downplaying the importance of the video editor, this chicken eating YouTuber details these 20 steps of the video editing process:
- Brainstorm topic
- Copy-edit script
- Brainstorm individual chapters
- Submit the script to a VoiceOver artist
- Select a VoiceOver artist
- Record the VoiceOver script
- Provide video footage
- Select video footage
- Match video footage with lines of the script (2:59)
- Add transitions to the video edits
- Render the video
- Generate closed captioning
- Add titles and graphics to the video
- Adjust the layout of title graphics
- Provide royalty free music
- Select music for project (5:25)
- Adjust volume so that music doesn’t compete with main VoiceOver
- Adjust the colors of title graphics
- Animate titles, graphics and other video elements
- Export the video into the proper technical specifications
