5 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Drone Videographer

Does the drone videographer carry a commercial license with the FAA?
Drone pilots are required to carry a license from the Federal Aviation Administration in order to perform commercial videography services. Pilots need to pass an airspace knowledge exam in person at an airport testing site approved by the FAA. All Business Videography only provides licensed pilots to gather great visuals from the skies for its clients.

Our small business uses the testing center in Montoursville, Pennsylvania to prove our knowledge. You probably wouldn’t hire an unlicensed truck driver to deliver materials to your small business. Don’t hire an unlicensed pilot to deliver source material for your company’s videos!

How far in advance do I need to book a drone videographer?
In many cases, drone videographers need to seek permission from local airports to fly. When the drone video shoot is within 5 miles of an airport, a LAANC authorization is required. LAANC applications can be submitted anywhere between 3-70 days in advance. Therefore, it makes sense to book your drone videographer at least 1 to 2 weeks in advance. With the unpredictable weather in Central Pennsylvania, your drone videographer will likely also schedule a rain date. The rain date might also be activated because of high winds. Our videographers will seek the proper LAANC authorization on our clients behalf.

Should I hire a drone videographer or buy stock footage?
The cost of hiring a drone videographer for a custom shot is higher than buying the rights to a similar stock piece of footage. Here is how to choose between the two options. Write out a wish list of visuals that you hope to capture. If that list includes city skylines or famous landmarks, you might save money by purchasing stock footage. However, gathering custom shots of your small business could be worth the investment. Beauty shots of your storefront, large event, outdoor display, et cetera could be the “wow factor” that stops your audience’s endless scroll on social media. Fortunately, All Business Videographer offers both options.

Our drone videographers can capture visuals that are unique to your business. Our company has also compiled a large library of footage available for license with landmarks from around Pennsylvania. You can buy a license to use footage for city skylines such as Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, even Altoona. We have gorgeous beauty shots of the three rivers plus one. You can buy a license to use aerial footage from above the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers. We are also adding to our collection of beauty shots above the Susquehanna River.

How to find independent filmmakers who perform drone videography?
A lot of people have the UAS drone license, but have never produced a commercial in their lives. All Business Videography have been producing high quality videos for local businesses since 2015. Our drone videographers have the eye and experience to gather stunning visuals from the skies.

Does my business need a drone for great visuals or property surveillance?
Don’t hire an expensive cinematographer to capture pristine images from the sky if you just need land or property assessed. Let’s say you are a farmer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania who needs a drone to inspect the top of a silo for wind damage. As a business, you would need a commercial videographer to capture those images. However, you could save money if the visuals don’t need to be perfect cinematic quality. Talk to the video producers at All Business Videography to learn about discounts for drone shoots that will not be published for commercial purposes.

Example drone videography packages

The best value for our drone video production is to include video editing with your service. For example, we can fly for an hour and deliver a 5 minute music video with highlights of the footage for $195 total. That includes the $80 minimum flight time with a $115 highlight video edit.

That same client could still receive the raw files for an additional $50 fee.

Conversely, clients pay slightly more to receive the raw video files with no video editing. For example, it would cost $230 to deliver the raw video files from an hourlong drone shoot. That would include the $80 minimum hour flight time and the $150 raw video transfer fee.
