Deposition Videographer Serves Pennsylvania's Capital City of Harrisburg

Videographers with All Business Videography cover Harrisburg with a variety of special projects including straight-up legal videography.  While many court reporting services offer traditional court reporters (ie stenographers), interpreters, remote depositions, and close captioning services, our focus is exclusively on the deposition videography component of the case.

Our senior videographer Matt DeSarle has recorded depositions from between Harrisburg and State College, Pennsylvania.

What Our Technical Set Up Looks Like for Legal Videography

All Business Videography offers a straight-forward deposition video process.  We record the deponent at one end of a long conference table.  The background behind the deponent is disguised with the help of an inconspicuous black curtain.

A simple black curtain sits behind a deponent.

The deponent wears a wireless microphone, which transmits audio to our primary camera. This camera is a Canon XA55 camcorder. It records high-quality 4K video, ensuring clear and detailed visuals.

The XA55 is the workhorse of our equipment lineup. It can record at lower bit rates and capture continuous footage for several hours.

With a 256GB memory card, we can record for days without interruption. Our most recent deposition was filmed in HD quality at a bit rate of 17 megabits per second (Mbps). This bit rate ensures the entire deposition is captured in one continuous video file, maintaining quality and reliability throughout.

How to capture high quality audio during a legal videography assignment

As with any video production, the audio side of a legal videography assignment is half of the job.  Here are some common-sense measure that we take to provide top quality audio.

First, we take initiative to secure a quiet and distraction free environment.  This video production approach of course ties back to all of the other field production work done by All Business Videography.  If there is a distracting sound, or the risk of that, we address it immediately.

For example, a recent recorded deposition was being done inside of a conference room in the basement of a public library.  That conference room had a shared hallway with two or three other storage and conference rooms.  When a book sale was opened to the public at the same time as day 2 of depositions were to get underway, we didn't take chances.  Our videographer politely told library patrons that video recordings were happening down the hallway.

Because you know, a crowd of library patrons can get quite rowdy!

This group in particular appreciated the heads up about what was actually happening behind a closed door a few short yards away.

A hand-written sign is taped to the back of a door to notify library patrons that a video recording is underway.

There remained an anonymous status of what exactly the video recording was.

How a h4N ZOOM recorder is used for capturing clean audio during a legal deposition

All Business Videography uses wireless Rode mics to capture audio from the deponents directly into the primary camcorder.  Meantime, one attorney from each opposing side is mic'd up with a wired lavaliere microphone.  These two attorneys are having their audio recorded cleanly throughout the proceedings on a h4N Zoom recorder.  Truth be told, the audio from each attorney is clearly picked up from the same mic that the witness is wearing.  However, having each attorney wear an isolated mic guarantees that nothing the deponent (or opposing counsel) does will distract from hearing each word that the attorney uses during questioning.

A 4K camcorder and an audio ("Zoom") recorder capture picture and sound during a recent deposition.

Why Deposition Videography Should Have a Simple, Affordable Rate

Legal costs can quickly add up, making it tough for law firms and their clients to manage expenses. One area that often gets overlooked is deposition videography. While it’s essential to capture depositions accurately, it doesn’t have to come with a sky-high price tag.

Deposition videography plays a crucial role in legal cases by providing a reliable record of witness testimony. But the high costs associated with traditional services don’t always make sense. At the end of the day, it’s about getting a professional service at a reasonable price.

With straightforward pricing, law firms can ensure they get quality videography without breaking the bank. There’s no need for hidden fees or complicated packages. By offering affordable rates, we can help make legal services more accessible while keeping quality at the forefront. Let’s focus on what matters most—getting the job done right, for a fair price.

Why State Capitals Are in High Demand for Legal Depositions and Related Videography Services

State capitals often experience a higher volume of court cases, trials, and depositions due to several interrelated factors:

1. Centralization of Government Functions

State capitals house the central government institutions, including the governor's office, legislature, and various state agencies. This concentration leads to a greater number of legal disputes involving state laws, regulations, and policies. Additionally, the presence of state government offices attracts legal professionals, resulting in a higher density of legal activities.

2. Judicial Infrastructure and Resources

Capitals typically have more developed judicial infrastructures, including multiple courtrooms, specialized courts, and a higher number of judicial officers. This infrastructure enables the handling of a larger caseload and facilitates the scheduling of trials and depositions.

3. Economic and Institutional Factors

The economic significance of state capitals can lead to more business and employment-related disputes, which often require legal proceedings. Moreover, the proximity of state agencies and institutions can result in a higher number of administrative and regulatory cases being filed.

4. Legal and Procedural Dynamics

The legal community in state capitals is often more active, with a greater number of legal practitioners and firms. This activity can lead to more cases being filed and pursued through the legal system. Additionally, the availability of resources for conducting depositions and trials contributes to the higher volume of legal proceedings.

In summary, the combination of centralized government functions, developed judicial infrastructure, economic significance, and active legal community contributes to the increased number of court cases, trials, and depositions in state capitals.
